20th entry ~ November 12, 2023

Some of the side effects from CI surgery include dizziness, nausea, tinnitus, and headaches. Of course, the tinnitus continues pretty much as before, but so far I have experienced none of the others. The incision is healing nicely, though it’s moving into the ‘itchy’ stage and I find myself rubbing the tip of my finger all along it, but avoiding scratching.

A new sound has developed with my tinnitus, one I’ve never experienced before. It sounded to me like there was perhaps a water leak in the washing machine, which is in a closet not too far from my recliner. Of course, it wasn’t the washer at all – it was my tinnitus. The sound doesn’t happen very often, mostly during the night. Other CI users report that the symptoms that appear in the days following surgery typically disappear after the incision is fully healed and the processor is in use. Many also report that while they wear the processor their tinnitus completely goes away – but returns when they remove the processor in the evening.
