The lab work involved more than just drawing blood. It was more correctly a pre-operative appointment, with a questionnaire about family and personal medical history, blood work, EKG, and chest x-rays. I was there an hour and fifteen minutes altogether. When I left the hospital, I circled around to find the entrance for tomorrow’s appointment. The time has changed slightly; my check-in time is 8:30. I came home with detailed instructions about a morning shower, a bottle of antiseptic to lather myself with (and waiting three minutes before rinsing it off), instructions to consume no food or drink after midnight, which morning and evening pills to take and which not to take, instructions to brush my teeth but not to swallow any water. I’m ‘way more nervous about following all of those instructions than I am about the surgery! My next entry will be post-surgery.
